Gianni Infantino, President of the International Football Association (FIFA), submitted a proposal to make Arabic an official language in FIFA, in appreciation of the importance of the Arabic language, which is spoken by more than 450 million people in more than 20 Arabic-speaking countries, in addition to millions of Arabs. Today coincides with the celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language, and the conclusion of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, which will be held for the first time under the umbrella of the International Football Association (FIFA).
This proposal comes after long discussions with all parts of the Middle East and North Africa and coincides with the conclusion of the Arab Cup, which witnessed the participation of 23 teams from all over the Arab world, is a wonderful celebration of football, embodying the values of unity and solidarity in the Arab world and the region.
The International Football Association (FIFA) currently supports four languages: English, French, German, and Spanish.

Guterres expressed his happiness to participate in the celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language, saying: The Arabic language is one of the oldest languages spoken by humans since the dawn of history. For centuries, the Arabic language has linked peoples through literature, music, poetry, and philosophy.
He added that the Arabic language was the common language of communication in the fields of commerce, art, and science, as well as rich and vibrant, uniting hundreds of millions of people in 22 Arabic-speaking countries, and linking about two billion Muslims who use it in their prayers and supplications.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations indicated that several entities in the organization, inside and outside the headquarters, hold festive events on the occasion of the International Day of the Arabic Language, as the Arab Club at the United Nations organized an event in which representatives of the Member States, academics, calligraphers and those interested in the Arabic language participated.
The theme of this year’s celebration comes under the slogan “The Arabic Language and Civilized Communication”, and is considered a call to reaffirm the important role that the Arabic language plays in building bridges of communication between people on culture, science, literature, and other very many fields, noting that the purpose of this topic It is to highlight the historical role played by the Arabic language as a tool for knowledge creation and transmission, as well as a means to promote dialogue and lay the foundations for peace.
Guterres explained that the theme of the year 2021 is of great importance in the context of societies where globalization, digitization, and multilingualism are on the rise, as it recognizes the changing nature of the world and the urgent need to enhance dialogue between nations and peoples, pointing out that the Arabic language has no fear because it is a renewed language in arts, literature, poetry and All aspects of human expression.
